My new favorite Thai take-out joint is Sticky Rice on Center Street in West Roxbury. It opened about 6 months ago, and the owner is trying hard to make it work. It's a family business, with the owner's wife and mother often cooking in the kitchen, and the owner is often behind the register. All of the Thai take-out standards are solid: pad thai, pad siyew, curries, tom yum soup, etc. But there are also some very worthwhile dishes that involve mangos and lots of fresh vegetables. Prices are very reasonable (about $10 for an entre), and while there's not a lot of atmosphere in the restaurant itself, it's NOT a hole in the wall. If you like hanging out with local families (and don't mind kids running around), it's actually kind of fun. I'm not sure that I'm a huge fan of sticky rice (the food), itself. It's kind of hard to eat and not all that satisfying, but my kids love it, especially mango sticky rice, which is a dessert.
It probably doesn't hurt that Stick Rice is only 5 minutes from my house. On Friday evenings, that's often the deciding factor.
